Tom Hines began his career in 1993 working for legendary writer/director/producer, Garry Marshall (“Pretty Woman”, “Beaches”, “Valentine’s Day”) at his Henderson Productions Company in Burbank, CA. In 2006 Tom left ‘the nest’ at Henderson Productions to direct his first feature, the $150,000 “Chronic Town”. Filmed on location in Fairbanks, Alaska, the film made its World Premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in 2008. Following a long festival run, several awards and strong reviews in Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, “Chronic Town” was picked up for distribution by Pathfinder Pictures. Tom’s second feature, “Alleged” starring Nathan West, Ashley Johnson, Brian Dennehy, Colm Meaney and Fred Dalton Thompson, was recently picked up for distribution by Image Entertainment after taking home a variety of film festival awards, including Best Director at the 2012 Michigan Uptown Film Festival. “Alleged” was filmed entirely on location in Flint, MI.
As a writer, Tom has worked on rewrites and as an on-set writer for Garry Marshall’s 2010 hit film “Valentine’s Day” and more recently “New Year’s Eve” starring just about everyone in Hollywood — and Robert DeNiro. Most recently Tom joined with Garry Marshall and Matt Walker to write “Mothers”, a romantic comedy currently being
shopped by the producers of “Valentine’s Day” and “New Year’s Eve”.
Tom’s producing credits include Andrew Wagner’s $30,000 indie road trip film, “The Talent Given Us”, which won the Grand Jury Prize at CineVegas 2004 and went on to become an Official Sundance Selection in 2005. Tom also served as Associate Producer on Disney’s “Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement” in 2004.
As an actor, Tom has over 30 credits including roles in films such as “Runaway Bride” and “The Princess Diaries”, television roles on “CSI:Miami” and “The Young & The Restless” and numerous national commercials including spots for Miller Lite, Chase Sapphire, Walmart, Verizon Wireless, Honda and The Home Depot.
Currently, Tom is working on his next writing/directing project, “Winning Sounds Like This”, an ‘inspired by true events’ romantic sports comedy.
A current member of The Directors Guild of America, The Writers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild, Tom has over 20 years of experience in Hollywood.
